Waste Duty of Care

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 imposes a waste Duty of Care on all producers of waste, requiring them to ensure their waste is handled safely and within the law from production to final disposal. It applies to anyone who produces waste from business or industry.

Waste producers must ensure their waste is carried and dealt with by authorised companies, failure to do so could result in illegal disposal and potential prosecution. Monitoring and inspection of this process by the Environment Agency has become increasingly rigorous.
